Convertible Climate – The Season Of Open Top Cars
‘Tis the season to be jolly but not because the man in the red and white hat is on his way (gosh not yet!) but because the sun has eventually started to shine. This week saw the mercury reaching as high as 25C (77F) in the south-east, which is 10C higher than the UK average for this time of year. Spring has sprung, flowers are in bloom, the birds are singing, the bees buzzing. We’ve packed away our winter warmers and we’re reaching for ice-cold G&T’s like we’re living in the South of France, dusting off the BBQ’s, flocking to the beaches and eventually taking the roof down on our convertible cars, that have been tucked away all winter.
We really are a nation that rejoices in the summer, where the rest of Europe have a steady flow of sunshine more consistently, we never take for granted even one day where the rays shine down, so we seem to ensure that we get out and about as much as possible.
THE BRITISH AND THEIR CONVERTIBLE CARS
Even with our hit and miss weather, ironically, us Brits buy more convertible cars than Italy, Spain and France. But why the love affair with these seasonal cars, when we can probably use them much less than our European friends? Summer definitely sees a huge influx of people buying or leasing open-topped cars, even though being able to feel the wind in our hair, the sunshine on our backs and the ability to smell the fresh air around us, is somewhat short-lived. The freedom and vitality driving around in a convertible allows us to step out of our stuffy offices and ride the open roads, even if just for a short time. Saying that it’s actually said the perfect weather for an open-topped car isn’t blistering sunshine that burns our scalps, but a more moderate temperature that’s simply dry.
HIPPO PRESTIGE AND CONVERTIBLES
We’ve got an incredible range of convertibles and open-topped cars in stock, to lease and buy, due to the huge popularity of these cars right now, we thought we’d take a closer look at some of our favourites.
We have the impressive Audi R8 Spyder V10 Quattro. Finished in Phantom black with Grey coloured stitching for Fine Nappa leather, it’s clocked 17,000 miles and sits pretty on 19″ ’10-spoke Y’ design alloy wheels with a high-gloss finish.
The R8 boasts a whopping 518hbp and 391 lbs-ft of torque which propels you from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds which means you’ll ‘suffer’ slightly with an efficiency of just 20.3 mpg and 332 CO2 emissions. It also has the Audi music interface and twelve, yes twelve, Bang & Olufsen speakers. You won’t get lost with the notable Satellite Nav system with a 6.5 inch colour display with 3D and voice maps.
Come and sit in this car, get the roof down and go for a test drive. Believe us, the LAST thing you’ll be thinking about is the fuel efficiency!
The F-Type is finished in Polaris white with black leather interior, 19″ Propellor Alloy Wheels and has done 14,629 miles with 2 owners from new. The F-Type boasts a 3.0 V6 engine, spurred on by a supercharger to produce 380bhp with the torque at 339 lbs-ft reaching 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 171mph. Efficiency wise it stands at 31mpg with CO2 emissions of 213g/km, which is not bad for a vehicle of this speed.
It packs a punch engine-wise, of course, but we can’t discount the lustrous looks. The car is well equipped with 380w sound systems with Bluetooth / phone connections and music streaming, Jaguar smart key system with keyless start and keyless entry, switchable active sports exhausts, reverse park camera with guidance, front parking aid, sat nav with a colour 8.0 inch touchscreen display, 3d and voice and traffic information, bi-xenon low beam headlights and much more.
Last, but certainly not least, we want to talk about the 1-year-old Mercedes AMG GT C in Magnetite black with matching black leather and 19in AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels. It’s got just 3,609 miles on the clock with one owner from new.
Now let’s talk engine, speed and performance, and what a performance it gives; loud and dramatic, it’ll bellow down the road makes sure it’s seen and heard when you pop the throttle. It should get to 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and will reach nearly 200mph at top speed. Its 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine sits at the front with its drive to the back, and it brags a whopping 550bhp with a neck-breaking 500lb-ft torque!
It’s sleek, long bonnet design will turn heads of course but other features include AMG performance exhaust system, reversing camera and Parktronic, keyless go pack, AMG performance steering wheel, AMG performance media, Burmester surround sound system and heated seats, again perfect for when you’re cruising with the top down at sunset.
This is just a small selection of our favourite convertibles in our showroom right now, we do of course have many more.
Many, like the Mercedes Slk Slk200 Blueefficiency Amg Sport Ed125 (2011) are getting snapped up and reserved with the excitement of the approaching summer, so do get in touch if you’d like to speak to us about our range of convertibles to buy or finance, or head to our website to view our full range. If you’re close to the Blackburn area, do yourself a favour and pop into the Hippo Showroom so you can test drive one of these amazing vehicles.
