Jaguar F-Type – The British Answer
Throughout motor history, the most famous Jaguar has always been the E-Type. This is the car that defined what makes Jaguar great. Jaguar hasn’t previously been able to come close to building a car that could succeed the E-Type. However, in 2013, they did it. They launched the Jaguar F-Type.
The F-Type comes in coupe and convertible models and we’ve fallen in love with the F-Type since we took delivery of one. The Jaguar F-Type R convertible with all-wheel drive is the fastest model of the standard F-Type convertible on sale. It is also one of the best high-performance sports cars on the market right now.
That V8 engine
This model comes with a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine. This brutish engine develops 550 bhp, ensuring that you have the power you need to drive fast should the speed limit allow it. It sprints from 0-60 mph in a blistering 3.9 seconds and hits a top speed of 186 mph. Whilst you won’t be driving at such speeds, it is always worth knowing the potential you have under your right foot (track days are great by the way).
Also that sound! The noise that engine produces is one of true beauty. The grumble and the eventual roar should send a spine-tingling feeling through your entire body. A combination of noise and looks will attract respectful and envious looks in equal measure as you cruise passed.
Fuel efficiency has become a major concern in recent years, but with the F-Type R do not expect dramatically low running costs. That said, it does far better than some of its luxury car rivals. It has a combined fuel economy of 25 mpg, an extra-urban fuel economy of 33 mpg and an urban economy of 17 mpg.
Look inside the F-Type
Jaguar has long been noted for their great interiors. In the F-Type, they understand that such a car should be all about the driver. Everything is designed with the driver in mind. The dashboard is angled towards the owner to ensure that everything is within reach when driving. Everything is well built with an excellent combination of high-quality plastics and materials. The leather feels soft and luxurious under the touch.
The seats are both comfortable at a cruise and supportive at speed. The seat and steering wheel is adjustable to ensure you get the best driving position to suit you. You get space for both the driver and passenger, including infinite headroom with the roof down. With regards to boot space, you have to remember that this is a convertible so it will be limited. It comes with 196-litres of boot capacity.
The Jaguar drive
Like the majority of Jaguar sports cars in the past, including the famous E-Type, they are excellent to drive. The F-Type R is no exception. This car is brilliant. The muscular chassis offers you the opportunity for so much fun and it entirely depends upon your skill level and how comfortable you feel with it. You can simply cruise in it smoothly and never notice any bumps. Or you can take the opportunity to visit a track and toss it sideways (seriously sideways) into a corner and hold it. You can influence how this car handles with how much pressure you place on that acceleror peddle.
The steering is quick, poised and accurate, ensuring you can handle it with confidence. The ride quality is smooth and comfortable when cruising along as normal and firms up when you drive at speed. Meaning you will be comfortable and stable whenever and wherever you drive.
