The King Of Prestige Cars Is Dead, Long Live The King
In 2003, Rolls-Royce launched their seventh generation of the Phantom, their flagship car. The car that defines Rolls-Royce as a brand of opulence and status. It has kept Rolls-Royce on top of its game and retained the position of the most luxurious car on the market and have no fear, Rolls are replacing it with a fresh, new Phantom in 2018.
The last car of this generation has rolled off the production line and will be sold later this year. If you have always enjoyed the sight of the seventh-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom and have yet to own one, then we suggest you consider it this year.
This is why you should…
Ever since it was launched in 2003, the Rolls-Royce Phantom has had a 6.75-litre V12 engine. This large and powerful engine produces 459 bhp and 531lb ft. You expect as much because of the weight of luxury it has to carry.
Speed is not important with the Phantom for its purpose is to be enjoyed as a leisurely cruise and therefore has an electronically-limited top speed of 150 mph. But that does not mean it is slow in acceleration. You still need to reach the adequate speeds for motorway driving in quick order. Therefore it accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
Fuel efficiency is definitely not a priority with this car, unsurprisingly due to the weight of this car. It has a combined fuel economy of 19.1 mpg as well as an urban fuel economy of 12 mpg and an extra urban economy of 28 mpg. It does have a 100-litre fuel tank meaning you have much more to empty than most other cars.
This car does after all weight 2.6 tonnes so Rolls-Royce have done a great job with this car. Will they be able to repeat this masterpiece with their next generation of the Phantom?
Sitting in the lap of luxury
Out of all the cars manufactured today, no other car has an interior as nice as this Rolls Royce Phantom. The absolute attention to detail is incredible and the quality of materials used inside are of the highest quality available.
Rolls have delivered on the sumptuous luxury that they are most famous for. The seats are covered in the finest, softest leather you could find combined with the wood and chrome spread throughout the cabin draw you in and tempt you to touch it. The floor of the cabin is covered in the deepest, thickest wool you can imagine, ensuring you are surrounded by complete luxury.
If you are on long journeys in this car and not completely focused on what you need to do, you will likely fall asleep. You are after all more likely to be a passenger than the driver of this particular car.
You may be the rare individual who wishes to drive a Rolls Royce Phantom themselves or you may choose to have a personal driver. Unsurprisingly this car is amazing as a long distance cruiser. The cabin refinement is excellent. You will be unaware of the road, wind and engine noise as you travel along, even at high speeds on the motorway.
Despite weighing 2.6 tonnes, this car handles well. The Phantom has impressive brakes with excellent and accurate steering. It will obviously have body roll because of the weight, but you will barely notice it as a passenger. The combination of the V12 engine and the eight-speed automatic gearbox is a smooth, seamless acceleration up the gears. This car is just excellent and we will miss it.
